era definition logic
People define the "Sonic eras" in different ways, but I would like to think there is a general consensus. If not, here is my reasoning. The "classic" era is pretty cut and dry: basically anything before Sonic Adventure. The team definitely wanted to take a new direction and basically said this was going to be a new era in press at the time. 3D and all that. The "Boost/Modern" and "Dreamcast" era has a bit more fuzziness to it, and personally I think there is a gradient there. I chose to define Unleashed as the beginning of the Boost era. That is the first sign of the Boost gameplay, after all, but it is the last hoorah of the Dreamcast era of Sonic storytelling. The bigger shifts there would come with Sonic 4 and Colors, with SATBK already in the pipeline before the philosophy shifted. I think in a different world, one where Sonic '06 didn't bomb, that game would have been the start of a "new era". However, we don't live in that one, so the definition is up to interpretation. The new "Modern" era that we're in as of writing is also pretty well defined with Frontiers. Sonic Team basically said as much in interviews and so on.All in all, it's just a way to break up the 30+ year history of these games and their music. You understand.
